Friday at noon we actually arrived in Alaska! The road from destruction bay into the USA was horrible! At one point we figured out we had gone 115 miles in nearly 4 hours! BUT we saw some of the most spectacular views!
First we saw the grizzly wandering in the middle of the highway playing with a plastic bag! Ugh we have to be more responsible with our garbage! We saw lots of black bear that day as well! We kept seeing signs for moose, sheep, and caribou but no actual animals!
We did stop to assist 2 guys who were stranded. We took their information and we stopped at the next town to alert a tow company ! We had the KM post, area.,make of truck, what was wrong with the truck and they dispatched a truck to go get them. Another time another lifetime we may have offered a ride, but not now! I had my baseball bat on the ready! Sad how things have changed! Anyway...
The rv was rattling and bumping all over the road, we both agreed it was the worst Drive/ride ever!
Our stop in Tok was nice quiet campground that had a car wash! Dave was thrilled to wash the truck! I ran the vacuum in the coach to try to rid it of some dust! We did a little organizing of stuff in compartments .... Everything was covered in dust! All worth it ...because we made it to Alaska!
Sourdough pancake tossing contest! We didn't win!
A beautiful ride yesterday through snow capped mountains! 2 moose, lots of curvy roads!
Today is a new day with new adventures, we are heading towards Homer and plan to spend the month of June there! I think the first week will be total relaxation and unwinding!
More later!

I can't remember when we blogged last, but it's been quite the ride! Jasper ,Alberta was awesome. Ice fields, glaciers bears! Then we had a bunch of elk in our campsite! The road was awesome! Met some very nice folks who are also traveling to Alaska! They were from Florida . They are going a different route then us.
We made it to Dawson creek on Sunday ..mile zero of the Alaska Canada highway. Dust storm city!
Headed to fort nelson and then the liard hot springs. The spring was super hot like 108 in one section and 120 in another that's Fahrenheit! I only put my feet in!
Today we headed toward Yukon Territory and we really enjoyed the ride! Many many bears. We saw one cub climb aa tree!
Mind you we are in the rv when we take pictures of these creatures!

Biggest problem so far( other than being very very homesick) is lack of wi if and cell towers! I miss TECHNOLOGY more than a simple Tv! Yes I have an international plan but it doesn't work if there are no cell towers!

To that end I need to tell you that our children had not heard from us in more than 24 hours except for a message I had texted to Rod as we pulled out of the last civilized campground! So they began to worry...and worry. And then I think they may have been extremely worried as Kristin called the authorities , and on star ( which we also tried to use for a phone call last night without success) ..so by the time we got to the next area of civilization, I turned on my phone and it whistled, beeped, shouted, vibrated and every other thing that you can imagine!

Needless to say we called right away. We found out that we are now grounded!
Good thing we are thousands of miles away!

Well for now I have to sign off as we only have one hour of internet and. I have to Check email and other important things. I did already check my Red Sox UGH!

We are in a little cafte and all the guys are watching the hockey game! We are having the time of ours lives!

a few pictures

As you can see I really liked the buffalo. Today when we went in to the park we only saw about 5 or 6. The snow was a surprise but very beautiful!  I added the last picture of Gavin with a "snow" cone ..JUST BECAUSE
So finally a post from me, Dave, on the blog. We left Las Vegas after almost a week spent with family. It was great to be in one spot for awhile! Had fun and saw a couple shows with Charlie,Barbara,Rick and Joanne. Joanne and Rick opened up their home and hearts to us all.
The trip north to Montana went pretty well except for the traffic through Salt Lake City. Too much construction and a white knuckle ride! We arrived at Idaho falls and set up for the night. Started having problems getting the drivers side slide in and out.
Left Idaho Falls and drove 106  miles that day so we could get to West Yellowstone in Montana. Staying at a really great place Grizzly RV Park about a half mile from the west entrance. Got a chance to go into the park for a few hours before retiring to the coach for the night. Lots of bison in the fields and then bison walking down the middle of the road next to us. Sue was able to take pictures.  (She will try to post pics later).
We extended our stay at the RV park for a few more days to wait for a new slide motor to arrive. Hope to have it by Monday so we can continue on to Alaska soon.
Surprise this morning! Sue came in to tell me there was 3 inches of snow on the ground. We were hoping to leave that stuff behind for a while but Mother Nature is always full of surprises! Most of it has melted away at 5 pm our time but the snowman we made still stands, although leaning a little now.    That's all for now. Pictures to follow!   Dave

So I thought I would put a couple pics on blog. The first is a state park in Utah in the Wasatch State Park. It was a beautiful spot , we were able to walk the dog on some nice open roads and she could be off leash. She was very happy!

The second picture is from a few days ago but worth repeating on here. It is a picture of Elk Mountain outside Rawlins Wyoming on our way to Utah. Stunning and this was our lunch break view!

We are now in Cedar City Utah and we will stay here til Sunday the 3rd of May. We will be heading south to Vegas tomorrow!

It is so ironic to me that I am enjoying myself immensely today just doing ordinary things such as cleaning and organizing! Dave is also enjoying himself looking through some boxes for things we might need or use and burning the rest later today!
It is beautiful here! The trees are in full bloom, the cottonwood is blowing all around and my allergies are returning.

We are looking forward to meeting up with Charlie and Barbara on Monday and Joanne and Rick later in the week!

For now that is all I have, I am just happy to have some time and energy to blog! I have my regular computer set up here!  Yay for us! Thats all folks!
